Announcing the So Bad It’s Good Blogathon!

OK, yes, the Unexpected Blogathon hasn’t dropped yet, but I’m announcing the So Bad It’s Good Blogathon now because I’m kind of excited about this idea. So excited that I’d like to hold it in February, which is filling up fast. Plus, Gill from Realweegiemidget Reviews and I were talking on Twitter yesterday about this topic and the wheels in my head started turning. Thanks for the idea, Gill! So here we go.

We’ve all seen bad movies. As in, so bad we split our sides laughing. I know I have. Sharknado. Princess of Thieves. Pretty much anything by Asylum Films. Lifetime movies. Disney sequels. Sixties surfer flicks. They lurk everywhere. Even blockbusters can be turkeys. We loathe them, we make faces at them, and in the end we remember them for their singular inferiority. They may even wind up as guilty pleasures.

Which movie is that movie for you? Or maybe you have a whole slew of them? Either way, let’s talk about it. The fateful weekend will be February 22nd through the 24th of 2019.

Here are the rules:

  1. Posts can be sent to me on or around February 22nd through the 24th via the Comment section, Twitter, Instagram (both @TakingUpRoom), or e-mailed to rebeccadeniston@gmail.com. Only new material, please.
  2. Since this is such a big topic, duplicates will be verboten, although the same movie can be approached from different angles. For instance, one person can do a straight review of a movie while another includes the same film as part of a list.
  3. Movies can be from any era or of any genre, and can be TV movies, features, indies, or B-movies. Lists of bad movies are fine. If anyone is stuck for an idea, streaming services or YouTube are a boon. Amazon Prime in particular is a gold mine for bad movies (Suggested search topic: Sharks. Trust me on this one.).
  4. Grab a banner and advertise the blogathon!

My trouble is going to be picking which banner to use… (Plan 9 vs. the Martians and Santa Claus, both of which I’ve already blogged about, or it would have been a cinch…) I’ve been waiting for a blogathon with this theme. I would like three separate entries. I’m going to cover the span of film history with this. From the 30’s Id like Reefer Madness. From the 50’s I’m going to do Glen or Glenda, (Ed Wood’s other masterpiece after Plan 9). And from the 80’s I’d like Howard the Duck.

      1. I wrote the Reefer Madness piece in my head while I was working yesterday, just got to get it down in type now. And I’m going to use the Plan 9 banner since one of my other pieces is Glen or Glenda. I’ll probably have all three written by Thanksgiving… Then will be the interminable wait for the blogathon to start before I can post them…

  7. Hi Rebecca! This blogathon sounds like it has a really interesting concept! I would like to participate by reviewing the film, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. By the way, how did you make your blogathon banners? I’m planning on hosting a blogathon next year (in the fall of 2019), so I’m wondering how to make blogathon banners while following fair use?

    1. Thank you–I think it’ll be fun. And thanks for joining. I make my banners at Adobe Spark. I just kind of stumbled on it, and it’s pretty easy. I so get where you’re coming from–it made me nervous when I started blogging.       8. Thanks, Crystal. Fortunately he takes these beta blockers for a work injury, so it knocks out most of the migraines now, lol. And thanks! I’ll add it to the wrap-up post. Looking forward to reading it, too. 🙂

      10. Yeah, I just left one. Oh, and a couple of the pain meds my husband takes are opioids with mild side effects. They also may be specific to his type of injury, but I’m not sure. We keep things very tightly controlled. Just a little heads-up. Hope you can find something that works for you, though! 🙂
